I purchased these Palmyth Convertible Mittens for wildlife photography and am very happy with my purchase. After spending a freezing cold morning along the Susquehanna River in Maryland, I decided to buy these and wear them together with a pair of glove liners (mine are $45 North Face liners from REI that allow me to use my cell phone and camera screen). When I'm shooting, I fold back the left-hand thumb and right-hand thumb and finger flap. For extremely cold days, I keep a pair of rechargeable Lerat AI 6-24 hour hand warmers ($26) in my pockets. If/When my finger or thumb tips get cold, I can quickly warm them up then continue shooting. I normally wear a medium-to-large glove, so I bought the Palmyth mittens in X-Large. With the liners, the fit is snug without being so tight it cuts off circulation. Definitely use the mittens' size chart and measure the circumference of your palm (don't measure your thumb, BTW). I like the fact that the finger-flap magnet is relatively large, so the flap doesn't, well, flap.

i'll readily admit that i'm not quite the target audience for these gloves, here. they're meant for ice fishers, i'm a grocery store worker in the evergreen state. HOWEVER! my job has me outside for most of the day, loading groceries into people's cars, rain, snow, or shine. we're not known for extreme winters here, but the cold can get pretty bitey around december-januaryish.for a while, i was in a helluva pinch. the cold air makes my hands hurt too much to go bare handed or settle for regular fingerless gloves, but i have to use a touch screen device all day, so i can't wear full coverage gloves/mittens. i'd tried other solutions before. phone sensitive gloves, other, cheaper flip top mittens, you name it, but they all had their flaws.then i bought these.when i tell you all my dreams came true that november day, i mean it. folks, the fleece lining on these is so snuggly warm and comfortable. the grippy material on the palms helps me hold onto my belongings without fumbling them, which is a huge help to a clumsy guy like me. the magnets are a massive improvement over the elastic fixtures i'm used to seeing on this type of glove. but my favorite feature by far is the openable thumb tip. every other flip top mitten i've bought has just left the thumbs fully covered, which makes them unusable with the touch screens i have to use. the open thumbs on these are just another awesome point on an already amazing pair of gloves.the only thing to be wary of, and this may just be a fit issue, is that the placement of the thumb magnet sometimes leads to the thumb flap popping out of place when i bend my thumb inwards. it snaps back when i move back, though, so it's not a huge concern. the thumb magnet also tends to press up against my knuckle, but i figure that that's just a fit issue as well, so i don't fault the gloves themselves for it.all in all, i would definitely recommend these gloves for anyone in the working class who finds themselves working outside on the regular! i'd say i'd buy them again, but they're so sturdy that i'll probably never need to :]

I like the finger part will fold back when you need it to but these mitts do not keep the cold out under about 20 degrees. My fingers constantly get cold and numb with them on.

Sometimes it flips upward and exposes your fingers bit they are good gloves

I work in a cold storage warehouse. 34 degrees and -10 degrees in places.Best gloves I've ever bought. It's been a year and a half of using them 8 to 10 hours a day 5 to 6 days a week tossing boxes and driving a forklift.They still keep my hands warm even with a few holes in the palms. They are true to size. Bring back the 2x please!

I bought these Palmyth Ice Fishing Gloves for my wife, who is a surveyor and has to work with tough touchscreen equipment outdoors in cold conditions. They worked perfectly at keeping her hands warm while still letting her do her job.The flip-back mitten design is ideal — she can quickly expose her fingers when she needs precision or touchscreen use, then flip the mitten back over for warmth. The Thinsulate insulation does a great job blocking the cold without feeling bulky, and they’re comfortable enough to wear for long periods.These gloves are well-made, practical, and hold up to real-world use, not just fishing. The first pair I had ordered was tight on me (Large). I ordered the X-Large. They arrived just in time for today it is 7 degrees above zero here in MA. The wind speed is around 6 mph. I bought them to help me operate my camera controls, out in the field. Well, this is where I have mixed reviews. First, at X-Large, these gloves are still a bit snug. I am hopping that they will stretch out after a few uses. For some reason, the thumb covers, would keep flipping open. I would snug them down, but they would still pop off, exposing my thumbs. Now the most important part: Exposing my fingers. Well, once I was done taking my picture and covering back up my fingers - after 20 minutes or so, my fingers never really got warm. Meaning, my other gloves, which were normal gloves, would have warmed up my finger tips by that time, more than what I was experiencing. They stayed cold within the gloves. This surprised me. I expected that after 20 minutes they would have been warmer. But they were not. So, at this point, I have mixed reviews as to the point of these warming your finger tips once exposed. They seem okay if you don't exposed your finger tips, but once you do, the lining for the finger tips don't seem to do much. I may be better off just using regular insulated gloves to slip on and off, when I take my pictures. If someone asked me if these are worth it, for what I use them for.... at this time, I wouldn't tell them to run out and buy them. Basically, once my finger tips were exposed and I flipped the cover back over them, they never seemed to warm back up. Keep in mind, it was 7 degrees here today. Maybe that is beyond these gloves limits?

These gloves are no warmer than any glove that I’ve ever used, and less warm than my well worn wool gloves. My fingers are always nice and warm in my wool gloves, but did get a little cold in these gloves.I purchased these because I needed a waterproof pair for work.I would regard these as water resistant, but definitely not water proof. Water did soak into the glove a small amount, but not enough to be a problem.The biggest problem was the thumb hood, which constantly flipped open by itself if I actually used my thumbs. I think it’s more of a problem than help. It would have been nice for them to have some kind of snap or some other way to keep them closed. I intend to sew them closed.My advice would be to buy wool gloves, and skip these, unless you need a more waterproof glove than wool can handle.

I rarely leave reviews but these mittens deserve them. I was hesitant because of the price but they're worth every cent. I mainly use them for walking my dog, but I also do some woodworking outside when it's cold out and they're great for both:- The magnets keep the flaps secure when you're not using them- I'm able to use my phone- The gloves have a very warm lining and keep my hands comfortable- There are grips on the palms which make it much easier to open dog poop bags without wetting my fingers, by rubbing the bag between the grips- I have small hands and many gloves are too big for me. These fit perfectly- They feel sturdy and well constructed and don't show any sign of wearing down any time soon

I work outdoors year round. Often at night. It gets really cold, and when my fingers get cold, they cramp and don't want to bend.These are the best winter gloves I've ever owned. I owned a similar pair last year that were hunting gloves. They had the magnetic flip mittens on them as well. However they ripped really easily when working in them. These gloves do not feel like they will rip easily. They feel very durable. The inside is lined with synthetic fur insulation, and when you use the mittens, I do not feel any draft or cold air reaching my fingers. They flip forward and back very easily. I was surprised with the small cloth loops on the ring and middle finger. At first I wondered what they were for, then when I took the gloves off, I realized they're for grabbing with your other hand and easily sliding the glove off. There is even a loop near the wrist for pulling them on easily. These gloves have the best functionality of any I've ever owned. I am extremely pleased with them. I get so tired of my fingers freezing every winter and it's a huge relief to have these gloves now. I will be in a slightly better mood at work now when the temperatures drop below freezing and the wind is trying to freeze me to death lol. The gloves even have a plastic buckle to snap them together when not in use so you don't lose one of them. It's the little things that count and a lot of care and thought went into these incredible gloves.Fit: These fit perfect. I was worried they'd be uncomfortable but they probably couldn't fit any better. They're not so bulky that I feel clumsy. I can't use regular gloves for my work, because sometimes I need to do precise work with my finger tips or use my phone. These gloves solve all of those problems and feel very comfortable and fit my hand and fingers perfectly! I ordered the XL size and my fist is about 4" wide. Read the reviews before you pick your size. That's what I did and luckily they fit perfectly.Look: Look doesn't normally matter to me with work gloves, however I noticed these have a high visibility reflective strip on the back of each glove. I ordered the gray pair and this will make them much easier to locate (and harder to lose) when it's dark. I've left many a glove sitting somewhere on the work site late at night. I actually lost my last pair probably because they were camo (not easy to find when you work outdoors like me, lol).Overall I don't think I could be more pleased with these gloves. I don't normally write reviews but I loved these so much I had to let anyone else know: if you work outside during the winter, or have an outdoors hobby like hunting and fishing, get these gloves! They would make a great gift, too. Just make sure you get them the correct size. 5 stars!!!!

Exactly what I needed! I have Raynaud's and struggle with finding a glove that can keep my fingers warm while still being able to use my hands... these gloves solved that problem. I wear them over a pair of battery heated glove liners and it is the perfect combination. The finger covers are easy to open and close ... the magnets are strong and work great... and most importantly these gloves help keep my hands super warm AND I can still use my hands.They do seem to run small though ... I'm a woman with average sized hands and the AI "recommended" size was a medium, but according to the size chart my hand circumference was at the high end of a Large (so I ordered a large). The large is a little bit of a snug fit, but it works because it keeps the glove liners taut on my finger tips (which is what I wanted). So definitely measure the circumference of your hand before ordering.

Good idea, but the thumb flaps need something to hold them closed. They're decently warm and offer great dexterity for using your hands, but the thumbs... They flip open when using your hands too easily and when closed they tend to migrate into a half open position, just enough that the pad of the thumbs are exposed. Absolutely no issue with the fingers flap, they work great. I tried sewing small strips of Velcro into the thumbs which worked great to keep the flaps closed, at least until the hook side got clogged up with fuzz from the glove liner.Great in theory, just needs something to keep the thumbs closed. Perhaps another magnet?

I really like these gloves. I bought 4 pairs, 2 for my sons, 1 for my husband, and 1 for me. They are super warm (please note that where I live the coldest weather is around 30 Fahrenheit, but still my fingers and hands were warm). They are waterproof which is something that is essential in keeping your hands warm in the winter. And they have grippers on the palms, which I adore! All 5 fingers open making everyday tasks easy, and there are magnets that keep the flaps out of the way. This is super helpful and something I have not seen on gloves before. Now, the only downside to these gloves is the thumb, it is difficult to get it to stay in place when closed. It more kind of half stays down, and half stays open if you don't squeeze it from the sides with the thumb and pointer finger of your other hand and push it closed. You must do this with both gloves. It is easy on the first glove but hard on the second glove while the first hand is completely gloved and shut so that you have no open fingers to use. However, it can be done. I do like these gloves, and this is by no means a reason to not get them. But if you are going to be in a very cold place you might consider something else because if you can't get the thumbs completely shut, that draft coming through the thumb opening is not pleasant.

I use these with another glove liner underneath to be able to use my phone to record wildlife in cold weather, down below 20 degrees. For recording birds I have to record quite often so it easy to flip the covers off and pull the phone out to use.Before I bought the glove liner I waited to see what the fit would be. It was perfect without the liner but I could only pull these off, without pulling the liner off with it, if the liner was very thin. Because of this I think I would buy a size larger of this glove.At first I thought the thumb cover was too long but after using it I found it worked well as is. It's easy to grab it to pull it back over your thumb. These are very well thought out, they have pull straps on the back of the finger and on the inside of the wrist to help you pull the gloves on and off. The magnets work well to keep the covers open. The wrists are long enough and have elastic to keep out the cold air. Inside they are soft and very comfortable. The outside is tough and has grips on the palm area. The clip to keep them together works well and is easy to use even to cold weather. I've used them below 10 degrees with a liner glove and they were very comfortable.Used with a liner glove you never have to expose your bare skin and still can use you phone and do other intricate tasks. I really like these gloves, they are a very good value!

Due to my previous gloves falling apart, I needed to get a new pair in a short time frame. For my work, I also require the conversion mittens so that I can type/write, but also can cover my hand completely when touching metal, all in an open door, non regulated temperature facility. This really limited my options because of availability.Out of the few options that were held at local amazon warehouses, there were only two gloves that fit the requirements I have. Most of the rest did not have a flap for the thumb, rather it was solid, which kind of defeats the purpose for me.I bought these gloves despite some concerning reviews. To address the biggest issues I read about: My pair has no smell to them, the thumb flap is finicky at best, and the sizes do run small, so get the next size up to be safe.Overall, these gloves do their job. They are warm enough for what I need, though I can't speak for ice fishing, as these are claimed to be for. Definitely good atleast down to 0 degrees from what I have experienced. They are light weight and very durable. The grip is great for pens, and also for climbing ladders. The magnets are very useful, and I have no problem with them. From reading others' reviews, I went up a size to large, and they are tight, but the us actually beneficial for me. The thumb is about the only real gripe I have. It is very long comparatively, which makes it difficult to type, and also causes the flap to fold open on its own. Otherwise these are fairly decent gloves, even considering their price.TL;DR: Overall, good gloves with questionable thumbs, but make sure to get the next size up.

I fell in love with what I call “mitten-gloves” a few years ago, and my go-to pair has been Black Diamond’s “Windweight” fleece mitten. But I’ve been on the lookout for something a bit more wind- and water-resistant and useable down to lower temperatures. I was dubious about the Palmyth “flips-tops” due to their relatively low price and the sheer difficulty of successfully incorporating numerous features into a complex item like this. However, IMHO, these mitten-gloves deliver as promised. I’ve had them for about a month, and I’ve done everything in them, numerous times: rode my fat-bike in falling snow, walked the dog in 15-degree weather, skied in 20-degree weather. They’re warm, pretty wind-proof, somewhat water-resistant, and the “flip-top” features on both main fingers and thumb work well. With daily use for winter outdoor activities, they’re holding up just fine.I have short, stubby little-boy hands and was concerned after reading about all of the sizing issues people have had. Black Diamond’s XS fits me perfectly, so I went up two steps to M when ordering the Palymths. Those would’ve worked, but they were a little roomy across the palm, so I returned them and ordered S, and these fit extremely well. They’re on the snug side, but the two finger loops make them the easiest-to-remove handwear I’ve ever used.Nothing’s perfect, and due to the wind/water-resistant fabric, plus the extra stitching around each finger, these are not as soft and pliable as my Black Diamonds; that’s a fair trade-off for the increased functionality. Really, the best and the worst thing about these is that I seem to be constantly opening and closing all four flaps, because I’m always fiddling with dog treats or jacket zippers or earbuds...and because I can!

*** Review Update - gloves are still doing great and no issues with two years of use.I don't often give a five star review on a product as you can tell if you read my review criteria below but these gloves deserve them. They are well manufactured and even better designed.Fingerless gloves with an "overmitten" are nothing new but this company was able to take a good design and make it even better. The outer layer is appears to be very durable and the palm has a grip layer that is great for fishing. One issue I've had with gloves like these are when removing them and keeping the fingers from turning inside out. These gloves have small straps on them that you grip to help remove them. When using them it keeps the fingers from turning inside out.Past gloves I have owned always use velcro to hold back the "mitten" and thumb cover, which often interfere with fishing line. These gloves use a magnet that hold both part back perfectly.I have one minor issue but not enough to keep me from giving the gloves a five star. The thumb cover is a little hard to put over your thumb and sometimes doesn't easily go on all the ways leaving some skin exposed. With little bit of fidgeting it eventually covers the skin but if the cover was made just a little longer it would make it easier to cover the thumb without any issues. All in all this is minor and I would still recommend these gloves to a friend.How I review:When I review a product said product automatically starts with four stars as I rarely will purchase anything below four stars.
